Clara Pople - Hot Moon EP
10.24
Avant-pop artist Clara Pople is the Cumbrian born soul/trip hop looper. She discovered she could use her voice as both her instrument and her accompaniment. With it she loops; bass lines, beatboxing rhythms and spine tingling/gospel choir conjuring 6-part harmonies to sonically accompany her darkly poetic songs about the trials and tribulations of what it means to be controlled by your hormones as a woman in your 20s. Residing on her houseboat in Southeast London, Clara holds monthly sold-out candlelit gigs (famously known as Boat Gig) creating an intimate and unforgettable experience.
This is an EP where I was responsible for the entire production, both the engineering and a substantial contribution to the writing, mixing the tracks as well as their subsequent mastering.
This was the first ‘solo’ project that I have lead on, teaching myself great responsibilities of acting as the shoulder for the artist to create & lean on. Once the writing & production had finished, I went on to mix and master the songs myself. This EP was an enormous learning curve for me, not only to discover the ways in which I enjoyed sonically creating a picture for this artist but the integral parts of recording and engineering a piece of work for someone else.
